For the third year in a row, my Mom, sister and I attended the food & wine show at the Western Fair on January 12th (third yer for my Mom and I, second for my sister). It was $12 admission then you purchase your tickets for $1 each. For the most part, you get a sample of wine for 1-2 tickets. Its a great opportunity to try new wines, especially ones that you wouldn't want to buy the bottle because you're not sure you would like it. We tried a raspberry chocolate wine that I was sure that I would love because raspberry chocolate is my favorite combination (and my choice EVERY time at marble slab!), but I wasn't a big fan of it in a wine... Our favourite stand is always "Girls Night Out" wines... they always give free prizes (soft lips this year) and their wine is delic!

It must be the ice cream cone & whipped cream that makes these so delicious Usually they have these shots available with the wine-based creamy liqueur that tastes like Baileys, Panama Jacks but this year they didn't have that! This is us indulging in a shot of tequila rose with whipped cream and sprinkles!
We had a hard time finding food this year that was something new and delicious to us. Last year we had some delicious Indian food from the Raja (which Aleksy and I later tried to go to their restaurant downtown and it was wayyy overpriced so we left and went back to our favorite: "A taste of India"), and this year we did circles around trying to find food from a restaurant we haven't tried before but most of the food seemed to be from catering companies and was kind of boring. We ended up getting these stuffed tomatoes from "The Dancing Greek", which is a restaurant that we have tried before... right down the street from the sisters house which used to be the Huron House! These were delicious and stuffed with beef, onion, and rice. We also had some pulled pork from the "Early Bird"... which I know to be a breakfast place so I was really hoping for some crepes... but pulled pork is always scrumptious.
Lesson that we learned from previous years: If you try to go in the evening, it is an absolute sea of people. Sooo busy. It seems that everyone has figured out what a fantastic time the food & wine show is, and when we left around 6pm, there was a massive line up out the door! We went from about 2-6pm, which is definitely an ideal time to go! I wouldn't want to wait in line ups to fill up my glass...
