Halloween/Birthday Events!

As usual, our Halloween was filled with parties & several trip to Fabricland! This year we had 2 costumes! Both were super inexpensive and low maintenance... I think this is partly attributed to the fact that we ditched all sewing and replaced with hot glue. Best time saver ever.

Halloween party #1 was October 25th at my Moms place (their annual event). Cookie Monster & large awkward cookie! We did up our costumes that day before the party: just bought fabric and Aleksy glued his to a cardboard box, and I glued my blue fuzzy material onto a hairband and styrofoam balls to the fabric. There were blue fuzzys everywhere... but it actually turned out really good! We even managed to win 2nd prize (our competition was a little extreme because Steph & Kenny were Beetlejuice & Lydia.. so good!).
As usual, I was all up over pinterest looking for some Halloween themed snacks to bring to y mom and Pauls party.

I had Halloween cookie cut outs from last year, which I used to cut out these mini-sandwiches. These are cream cheese, pesto, sundried tomatoes with spinach on rye bread. They turned out great, but I felt so wasteful throwing out the rest of the bread and sandwich that I probably won't make them again :(

But they were very festive!
My Rachel was all over the costume change this year too! Her skeleton costume was so good... seriously cutest skeleton ever. She won a prize too... she really wanted to win a Halloween bag of candy!
And you can see the cookies "in my tummy" in this picture!
Last night, November 1st, we celebrated at our place with friends... because we have an excuse to have a costume party every year!

I made meatballs (in the crockpot), pumpkin shaped veggie tray, RIP tex mex dip (with skeletons lined on top), barfing pumpkin with dip, and halloween rum balls... you can also see Chels's apple bread pudding here... that was beakfast today!
And costume #2 was Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles! Hilarious costumes, which were pretty cheap to put together too... our shells are tin turkey pans.. green spray paint for $5, felt for the orange & red, some green shirts and pants from Salvation Army & the yellow tummy was material from Fabricland too.. probably a total of $15 each for costumes!

Rafael & Michaelangelo.. even found our weapons at the $ store!
And always with the creative pregnant costumes: shotgun wedding... with Colton as the priest. The book that Al is holding is the "holy bible".. but underneath the paper it is Colton's truck & tractor book. Baby Osborne #2 should be here soon... due in 2 weeks!

In other fantastic baby costumes, our friends Sam & Zac had an awesome costume with their almost 1-yr old, Scarlett. Scarlett had the cutest leopard costume on, and Sam & Zac were safari tourists that were attacked by the leopard... their clothes all frayed and make-up blood. I somehow don't have any pictures of them.. but it was so original!
And the rest of our turtle crew! We had all the colours covered.. which was funny because when Nikki & Jon Jon got to our place our friends were asking us if we coordinated... we told them it was just a coincidence. This took just about 2 messages back & forth on facebook to put together!

The best part is they brought pizza to the party... and the brand was Donatellos (that pizza is so good... tastes better when eaten with Jon Jon).
And in other awesome costumes: Kenny's sweet Beetlejuice costume, which make shim look like an old man in pajamas from behind, Warren who was Allan from the Hangover with Cadence in her baby bjorn as Carlos (she's sleeping at this point in the evening though!), and the gorilla... hiding in this picture.
This is the problem I face today. We bought some discount candy yesterday from Wal Mart for the party... we bought a lot (125 twizzlers & 90 hersheys choc bars), then Nikki & Jon Jon had no kids come to their newly bought house so they brought their candy, and Nicole & Andrew brought a couple candy boxes too! Now all I've eaten today is licorice, 10 chocolate bars, and a banana (you know... for a balance). My hips are getting larger as I type....

Last year for trick or treaters, we had a total of 4... maybe 5 max. This year we had 5 times as many... about 25 kids. I guess the number of kiddos in the neighbourhood are growing! On Halloween night, both Aleksy and I were able to squeeze in a work-out (which caused Aleksy to miss most of the trick or treaters) and the special request for Aleksy's birthday... meatloaf. What a weirdo. But I went with it and made it some meatloaf... with mashed potatoes with cabbage and onion in it (like England!), and some mixed veg. Poor mans supper is Aleksys favourite!

  1. I love all the effort and thought you put into things like decorations and themed snacks for our parties!! Everything looked so good and tasted delic too! I'm so glad that we ditched sewing our costumes this year and decided to used pounds of hot glue instead with our costumes...waaay easier! What were we thinking in past years?

Nothing beats homemade poorman food! My favourite way to spend my birthday is at home with you!

    Love you babe!
