We left Thursday evening for Ottawa at 3:30pm - right on schedule! We had a gift card to a restaurant in Burlington so we made a stop at the Dickens pub for supper. Logan did awesome on the drive to Burlington, and then we let him run around in the park for a bit and have some perogies (he ate them all!) at this restaurant while we had our discounted pub food - shephards pie and yorkshire pudding. They were so nice to Logan, they even gave him a small bowl of fries while he waited for his perogies!
We left Burling after a longer than expected 2 hour stop around 7:45pm and because of crazy road construction traffic, we didn't get in to Aleksy's parents condo until 1:30am! We were exhausted and lucky for us, Logan's playpen was all set up and ready to go!Logan slept until after 7am like the considerate boy he is.
When Logan woke up, he had everything he could ever need ready for him - waffles, colouring, and even trains and his tracks. We got all ready to go out and headed to Gatineau, Quebec on Friday morning to check out an exhibit I had found that was done for Canadas 150th. This was the pathway we walked along to the exhibit just on the other side of the river.
After searching for a while, because I had no idea what to expect apart from a few pictures I found, we found the biggest, busiest crazy mind blowing exhibit!
Logan was a bit of a grumpy pants this day - starting from this point because he really wanted to cut across those sunflowers behind us and go "on" the train (and other displays!).
But we still had to take the time to appreciate these because they were so impressive! This inukchuk and bison was a recreation of the toonie.
And lots of Canadian inspired sculptures like this hockey one:
We were able to buy ourselves a bit of time with an ice cream sandwich for Logan before we headed back to Aleksys parents condo. We tried to make a stop for some beer and drinks in Quebec because we heard it was cheaper, but our stop to the SAQ proved this theory wrong and we decided we'd stick to the store we know and love - the LCBO. Logan was so exhausted he fell asleep on the way tot he store and didn't even wake up when we took him in the store and back to the car. Of course when we tried to put him into his playpen to sleep, he decided he wasn't going to go back down.
My copycat monkey sitting on the couch like Daddy (and not sleeping as he should). So after Aleksy grabbed us some bagels and coffees from Tims, drinks from our favourite store and some groceries then we packed up to head to our airbnb that we had booked just a 5 minute drive down the street!
The living room of our airbnb. Logan's preloaded peppa pig and nursery rhymes were a life saver on this trip! We had a bit of time to unpack and get ready until we headed to the rehearsal and rehearsal supper on the Friday evening.
Logan was the ring bearer so he had some responsibility. He was to walk down the aisle with his Nana and Auntie Michelle with a sign. So he was a part of the rehearsal and we attended as Mr. important's guests. After he practiced (successfully) walking down the aisle, we headed back to Michelle and Davids hotel for the rehearsal supper - pizza and beer!
This was Logan at their hotel - making silly faces in the mirror. Logan got some new trucks as a thank you gift and was good as gold until about 8:30 at the rehearsal supper!
I thought I was so good with limiting myself to 2 slices, then what happened is we took 2 (xxxl) whole pizzas back to the airbnb (there were a lot of leftovers!). The when we got back, got goober to bed and had some drinks with Steph and Jon, we ate more. It just goes too well with beer and wine!
This was breakfast on Saturday morning - the day of the wedding. So much pizza in the fridge with caesars ready for breakfast was hard to turn down. We are pretty good at keeping things relatively healthy even on vacations but when it rains it surely pours. But... yum....
Saturday morning, we wanted to take a walk to the park nearby at the river with Logan so he could run around and play and then go down for an early nap around 11am. None of that really worked out for us.
We left the airbnb and it was pouring rain. We thought it would stop or slow down so headed to the park anyways. It didn't stop. We did make it to the park to see this pretty fountain but the playground was too wet for any play.
We had a short visit to the river before deciding to head back from our walk. This was really close to our place - only about a 15 minute walk (with Logan, so likely a lot shorter without!)
Since we still had the morning (the wedding wasn't until 1:30pm), I decided that we would take advantage and looked up a cafe nearby in the Vanier neighbourhood - the red door provisions. I was sold by the picture that came up with the cafe in my google search - a pop tart with fruit loops on top. It had Logan written all over it. And they had them! But Logan only wanted the fruit loops... classic Logan. Even when it has all his favourite things: jam and pastry. We helped him out and ate that along with our scone.
After the cafe, we headed back to the airbnb and Steph and Jon were just leaving to do some exploring and we tried to put Logan down for a nap. Tried is the key word here. He cutely talked and played in his playpen until we went in and got him. So we just hung out and got ready until wedding time.
This fancy guy here just before the ceremony started. The ceremony location was so beautiful - a pavilion right along the river.
This is Logan's first suit. It was a Moores suit rental just like all the important wedding party people! It may have been a little, a lot big, but he pulled it off anyways!
The ceremony was beautiful with Alyssa's friend playing the violin to the wedding party entrance and Jon's uncle officiated the wedding.
And Logan did such an awesome job with the sign around him and walking down the aisle. And not only that, he stood at the front holding the sign during the entire ceremony quietly. We were so impressed by him!
If it was me and Aleksy asking him to hold hands or stand with a sign, I think things would have been different (becasue kids listen to their parents last)!
Alyssa's grand entrance! She had such a beautiful dress that was so unique and suited perfectly to her.
The ceremony was not too long and after all of it, Logan walked back out like a little gentleman then all the days events caught up and he was pooped and ready for a nap.
And this was after about 3 minutes total in his car seat after the wedding. The sleepiest fancy toddler with his justice league socks from Auntie Alyssa and Uncle Jon.
He woke up pretty cranky but we thought that he may lighten up once we got to the reception. And we had it planned so he would come for an hour to the reception then Steph and Jon would come get him right before Aleksy started his MCing and speech.
Alyssa's wedding favours - popcorn and also favours for the dogs (apparently a lot of guests have a dog!)
I caught a happy moment! This guy was not having it at all at the reception and was so tired that he couldn't stay still and was wondering all over and couldn't find anything to make him happy. I tried to occupy with food, candy and toys but no success! So we requested a bit of a early pick up so he could get back!
Alyssa's candy bar and popcorn were all personalized and Harry Potter themed. She did a lot of hard work on decorating and preparing a lot of diy decorations... and it all turned out so lovely. The hall - Ottawa rowing club looked so great!
We ended up coming home with 4 bags of varying candy. They easily add up - it was drive home from Montreal treats!
It was a long fun night of drinks and dancing. A lot of dancing and we headed out around 1am. It was a 30 minute walk back to our airbnb - through some really nice areas, in front of a homeless shelter and ending with a broken sandal when Aleksy stepped on me a few blocks from our place. Next time: uber.
