Nothing says fall weekend like a trip to the Ilderton fall fair and apple picking! And that is exactly what we did the last weekend of September.
We tried to get to the fair around 10am, but like we do with every plan these days, we were about an hour late (ok.. even more than an hour this time). We did not plan our arrival well because when we got there, all the crowd from the parade was also entering and so we had to wait in line to get in.
Once in, we got our big boy straight to the potty and then grabbed some candy, jam, and hot sauce. All the little tables were set out with their goodies so we grabbed a few!
Next stop was the tractors. Logan loves seeing the tractors and climbing inside. He was also really excited to go into a school bus. I love 3 year olds and how the simple things are exciting.
This was the most perfect day for a fall fair... sunny and around 15 degrees!
My people. And the crowds growing behind.
This popcorn was so darn good. It was demolished before we got home and Im really glad we didnt get the big bag because that would have been gone too.
This was the only food we ended up getting at the fair because even though I wanted to try some more, the crowds got so crazy and I couldnt get back through them to find something that looked good (and then there wold have also been a line for sure)
Rides! We only got on 2 because of crowds and needing to stop so frequesntly for bathroom breaks with our potty user in training. This was the roller coaster:. Logans favourite because of the speed.
When stopping in one of the buildings for a washroom break, we saw a bunch of sandwiches laid out for sale and we were all over that. Our picky eater wouldnt eat much at the fair but the tuna sandwich is a pass. And veggie sticks on the side... the extent of health food at the fair.
Ride #2.. the awesome tall slide! Logan remembered at the Western fair that we rode several times and immediately attempted to go back on after we went on it... not possible at this fair because of the lines (everything had a line!).
We left shortly after playing a brief game because 1) crowds were getting crazy and 2) Logan was deliriously tired! Logan has been napping on the couch as of lately and we decided not to fight it because we will take a any break we can get. Better than no nap.
Clearly the positive reviews of the Ilderton fair have gotten around and it is busier than ever. We were talking about switching to an evening next year to avoid the crowd!
And Sunday we met up with the fam for some apple picking at Great Lakes in St. Thomas. We liked this place way more than Appleland and have made it our destination. It was a bit of a rainier day but even better because crowds were small.
Logan pulled the wagon pretty much the whole time. Leah was in the baby carrier and content for only about 1/2 the time.
We got that massive basket of apples plus admission to the park for $50. A bit expensive but Logan had to go to the awesome park and we weren't getting in free like last year!
Cousins!
And after getting our apples and checking out the pumpkin patch we had this amazingness for lunch at the cafeteria! Ours was an apple and brie sandwich and Logans was a grilled cheese but Aleksy and I shared both because (surprise) Logan declined his grilled cheese. And that apple cookie doesnt look like much but oh my goodness... so much for losing the baby weight fast!
And we still got a bit of playtime in before heading back. Logan only had eyes for the diggers but briefly played in the corn and on the haystacks. He declined the corn maze!
